How do i let go the one i love?

i was in love with a guy and he loved me too. but i moved 2 1/2 years ago 800 miles away. i still love him but i haven't talked to him since because it hurt to much. on yahoo answers i asked what i should do and people kept saying that I should talk to him. i decided that i would soon. its been a week and i've been getting numerous signs to not talk to him (like a dream i had last night about him, i looked it up and it meant i was going to be grieving and should rethink my decisions) i've decided that i want to let him go because i really, really, really don't think he has feelings for me anymore and doesn't care about me. i just don't know what to do or how to let him go. any suggestions?
