What is selective mortality (in animals)?

I have a report that involves selective mortality in fish. However, no where in the article I'm writing about mentions the actual definition. I need to clarify what i means and have been unable to find a definition on any websites. I need the definition for my report and a URL for the bibliography. Any help would be appreciated
