My brake caliper wont swing back shut now that i put on new brake pads?

my car is a 2003 nissan 350z, to install my pads i had to loosen one of the 2 bolts on the back of the caliper, to make it swing up to let me install my new pads.. however now that i have new (thicker) pads inside of the caliper, it will not swing back down and close because there is too much room taken up in the inside.. i know that these are the right pads for my car.. any ideas?
